Aside from punches, #headlocks are one of the most common behaviors in a fight. This month in Bellevue our department’s DT lesson is headlock counters/escapes. I am fortunate I get to practice with my good friend and #Seattle PD officer @supermanfoy. We have plate carriers in each of our patrol vehicles. They add about 20lbs and I wanted to feel how the extra weight of that plus the regular gear (about 45lbs total) affected my ability to move. Last month, @policefitnessnutrition shared a #headlock counter that works when you are able to get your body positioned on the side of the person applying the hold. This counter and handcuffing transition from the #graciesurvivaltactics course at @gracieuniversityhq addresses what you can do if the person’s base is too wide and you can’t come around the corner. The techniques compliment each other very well and I’m grateful that Kevin (one of our awesome new hires) let me review and practice that with him in uniform and without the mats. Its harder to do jiu-jitsu with the gear on, but I’m trying to get used to it.
