One of the highlights of #summer for me is getting to #connect with the youth at the @bellevueskatepark #skatecamp. Aside from the incredible indoor and outdoor skateparks we have in our city, the main reason the vibe is so sick is due to the awesome staff. I’ve said it before, but @moormansmenu and @mewnyewnit make everyone feel welcome to skate, including old cops like me. Josh (fluorescent yellow shirt & tan shorts) is a pro skater who rides for @thekillingfloor and is one of the best things about our #community. Imagine learning how to play ? from someone in the NBA, or ? from someone in the NFL, that’s what these kids get daily. Josh is super humble, so the kids have no idea ?. Someone in camp always asks me what board I ride, and when I say “Josh’s board,” the next question is: “How come you don’t use your own board?” I have to explain it’s his pro model that I skate and the look on their face when they figure it out is priceless every time. The vibe he creates gets filtered down to the other awesome skate staff like @thefeedingofthe5000, @natetrahan and @cardiacrush, making this camp one of the best in the country for sure. At least once a month I try to complete a few #HIIT rounds in uniform (usually on my Friday or on a day off). The weight of the gear greatly limits movement and flexibility, and I want to feel that in training before it really matters.

We also have plate carriers (exterior body armor) in each of our patrol vehicles and the extra weight of that plus the regular gear (about 45lbs total) makes moving with a purpose extremely difficult.
