For those who are unfamiliar, it could be argued that @mikevallely is to #skateboarding what Coltrane is to the saxophone or Hendrix to the electric guitar. As a kid growing up in the 80’s all I wanted to do was ollie and street plant like him, and ride with style like @stevecaballero. YouTube “Mike Vallely Sponsored” for reference. Mike is one of the most influential skaters of all time, and the only thing I can do now, is spread the stoke and pay it forward. The 11 year old me would absolutely flip out if he saw this. Observations from rolling in uniform: Greatly reduced torso flexion from the vest and belt, retentions get inadvertently released, belt keepers are absolutely necessary, the soles of your boots get caught on loose clothing, and stuff in my pockets starts falling out. I like to keep the back of my belt clear because having stuff positioned there hurts a lot if you get stuck underneath someone. Whether it’s #jiujitsu, #skateboarding, #shooting or #music, I’ve always been fascinated by people who operate at the highest levels of their respective crafts. Watching @mikevallely skate, @renergracie teach, or my former coworker @yleegm shoot, and trying to emulate each of them in some small way. Being the uke for @nateorch10p is comparable to playing chord progressions on the piano while #wycliffegordon improvises over them. We have plate carriers in each of our patrol vehicles and it’s good to periodically feel how the extra weight plus the regular gear (about 40lbs / 18.1kg together) affects your ability to move. I saw @da_rulk posted that he had done 1000 #sitouts so I gave them a try using the #tababta protocol for our on-duty #workout. It was brutal and I only completed 200 reps. Day by day.
