Aaron is another former Honolulu PD officer who has relocated to the #PNW. He was nice enough to let me work on some clinch entries and drill a few takedowns in our Defensive Tactics room. Glad to have him on our team.🥋🤙🏽🎵 @jeffkaale #oahugrown #kaimuki #aiea #police #jiujitsu #selfdefense #trainweeklyorfightweakly
#Outreach. It is difficult to quantify or convey the impact that outreach has on a spreadsheet or graph. It often requires a large investment of time, and a return on that investment is never guaranteed. Some people will even say that it is superfluous, and not connected to real police work. Officer Hanaumi got to speak with Nana Faye about this and many other topics, and she wanted to show her appreciation to the officers who came to help celebrate her grandson’s birthday. #police #makeadifference #aloha #sisepuede #alwayscan
Nicholas is an absolute beast! I got in touch with him after his School Resource Officer gave me his cell and said he was very interest in training. I brought him to our station for his first #jiujitsu session. Technically, he’s a “white belt,” BUT he wrestled in high school and took 5th in states last year so needless to say I had my hands full! Super quick/explosive, clean technique, exceptional base and really strong, he took me down whenever he felt like it 😂. We went over the triangle and some jiu-jitsu specific positions, and he started shutting down my offense by the end of our session. He said he wants to do mma eventually and luckily we have a bunch of fantastic schools for him to choose from here. With his rock solid wrestling background I give Nick about 6 months of training some basic striking and submission defense before he start destroying people in the cage too. Huge mahalo to @shoyoroll for the gi and gear and to @evandroskilla & @gracieuniversityhq for the sparring gloves! I’m so hyped for him right now, Stay tuned! 👊🏽🥋🤙🏽#police #wrestling #outreach #aloha #makeadifference #trainweeklyorfightweakly
Dejah got to try the ‘ukulele (pronounced “OO-koo-leh-leh” not “you-kooh-lay-lay”). I showed her the C, F, G7 chord progression and in a few minutes she got it. She enjoyed it so much that we got an ‘ukulele for her. 🎵🤙🏽 #bellevue #police #kanikapila #outreach #aloha #ukulele #makeadifference #oahugrown #aiea #sisepuede #alwayscan
A few weeks ago I invited @isaacshorack to stop by our station to meet some of my coworkers. He took time out of his day to drive to our station twice and spoke to about 40 of our folks. Mahalo again for what you are trying to do Isaac. You make us all want to be better! 🙏🏽🤙🏽 #outreach #aloha #makeadifference
I have no doubt that @isaacshorack will bring profoundly positive change to this world and I am a better person from knowing him! When he stopped by our station to speak to my coworkers he was also willing to see how #jiujitsu can make everyone safer. I thought up some scenarios and we took turns trying to hold each other down and then went over some punch defense from the bottom of the fight. Isaac is a super quick learner and that, combined with his fantastic attitude will make him a handful on the mats in no time!🥋🤙🏽
So yesterday we went to #Seattle to support their community’s right to peacefully protest the unacceptable tragedy that occurred in Minneapolis and other injustices to people of color. At our post I had some very thought provoking discussions about how to make things better for our communities of color. I spoke with Ricky, Dr. Zhang, Kevin & Alex. My second favorite discussion was with @larsenbarber, who I found out trains #jiujitsu at @summitbjj! He was shocked how a jiu-jitsu hobbyist like himself who trains 2-3 times a week has more ground focused training in two months than many officers have in their entire careers! I mentioned how @jockowillink spoke on this topic and how he believes that 20% of each of our workdays should be devoted to training, and maybe one day that will be a reality. I hope to roll with you one day brother! 🙏🏽🥋🤙🏽…. Then, I met Ibu. Ibu told me he came to Seattle from Lynnwood to protest. He was holding a large, black, floppy cylindrically shaped object and was waving / shaking it at all of us. He looked at me and said “speechless right?” I told him I had many thoughts, but many of them were not appropriate for a public forum. I said we should get some news stations with their cameras here, and have them interview me while he stands in the background. I said he should give me his cell and I would text him when we are dispatched to a hostile situation because his presence and dialogue would immediately de-escalate any tense situation. I asked him if he ordered that @amazon, if he had #amazonprime, how many drones it would take to deliver it, and if it came in a package or if it was used / unboxed. I said to the folks who were there that someone should come up with a hashtag for this and make it trend! Without missing a beat, Ricky said #deescalationdildo” and the rest is history. Thankfully Ricky also captured some of the dialogue, but if anyone has the rest please share it because the world really needs some laughter during these dark times we are all going through. Mahalo to Ibu for showing us all the right way to protest! If you have a creative but still PG hashtag, share it in the comments! #covidildo19 #dildoordildont
We can all connect with their #community in different ways. The activity is not as important as the intent. Whatever your way is, do it with love and the belief that you are making a difference! I like jiu-jitsu and skating, so does Jayden. Luckily we had some mats and a sick skate spot. The rest is history. Hopefully we can do that again this summer. 🤞🏽🛹🚔🥋🤙🏽 #fbf #bellevue #police #outreach #aloha #makeadifference #jiujitsu #streetplantbattalion #skatelikeacop #protectbellevuedotcom
Full uniform + plate carrier #workout. The additional 40lbs / 18.14kgs makes moving dynamically very difficult. The plate carrier straps need to be cinched pretty tightly to prevent the plates from moving around. I had to cut off part of the excess strap on my gun side so it wouldn’t interfere with my draw. I think it’s also important to feel how the carrier fits on top of your existing gear, which will also be different depending on if you use an internal or external vest. I hope to one day get to a level of #fitness where I forget that I am carrying the extra weight. Day by day. 🚔🤙🏽 #bellevue #police #alwayscan #oahugrown #aiea #trainweeklyorfightweakly #protectbellevuedotcom
