“Strive for progress, not perfection—growth happens in the effort, not in flawlessness.”
How many times have you been in a tough match and had to use a strategy that wasn’t necessarily pretty to watch, but was effective? 🎯 If you’re an experienced competitor, most likely several times. Sometimes, in competitions, we “live or die” by the strategies we choose.
This was my toughest match of the event, against an opponent I greatly respect, with a long history in jiu-jitsu and extremely dangerous. ⚔️ My goal in this competition was to show aggressive jiu-jitsu, but I ended up being more conservative in this match due to the challenge it presented.
We are all our own toughest critics, and I’m no exception. If you’re a perfectionist, you know exactly what I mean. But don’t let perfectionism hold you back—use it as fuel to improve and get better. I walked away from this fight feeling unsettled with my performance, which I used as motivation for the next battle. 👊
Thank you, Gabriel @gabrielwillcox , for the war. It’s no surprise you’re a 4x @ibjjf World Champion. One thing though: next year, I’ll be Master 5 and lightweight, so I don’t want to see you anytime soon! 😅 Beautiful/effective recover from the guard pass by the way.
🎥Use tournament footage to analyze your performance, always looking at both the good and the not so good. Remember, chase authenticity and you will find internal peace.✌️
