Black Belt Injures Black Belt with a "Safe" Submission

Today we’ve got a question from a BJJ Black Belt in his late 30s, Bob, who was training with another Black Belt, who was in his early 20s.

While they were rolling at Jiu-Jitsu practice the Young, competitive, Black Belt caught Bob in an Arm Bar.

As Bob was working to defend, the Young Black Belt tried his hardest to break the grip with 20 seconds left, and all of a sudden Bob tore his peck.

Now, Bob needs surgery & it will be 8-12 months before he’s back on the mats.

He wants to know what my perspective on the situation is, if he should be pissed at the young Black Belt, etc.

In this video, I’ll address this “safe submission” in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that got Bob injured & dive into why I would not call it “safe”.

I’ll also give you guys a training tip that will make you a better finisher in competition & help you keep your training partners healthy when you finish submissions.

Hopefully, you found this video helpful.

Thanks for watching!
