This style of video analysing BJJ is awesome
Really insightful
no wonder i can't pass one of our blue belts' guard! he's an inverter!
hi hi- yes turtling could be dangerous if the position developed now, but the exposing of the back does seem to make one vulnerable vs inverting to hide the back….you are right that we haven't seen someone emerge in recent times to challenge the philosophy, but BJJ always evolves so you never know (for example most thought cross facing was critical till Lo showed active posting was a viable alternative). As long as we don't see the "double turtle guard pull" i'm all for evolution…
ok, i will take that in! sorry, these few vids have been me testing different formats, i appreciate your feedback!
i was going to travel so I tried to release 3 before I hit the road, thanks!
Here's my opinion. Bear in mind I'm a blue belt with a wrestling background. Some of you are much more experienced. I'm a half guard smasher. So far "inverters" have not been too problematic. But I see the points brought on… food for thoughts, will seek out inverting specialist to work with and learn
Dude its all good! Thanks for taking the time and making these awesome vids !
I want to second this suggestion. It is a good one.
I can still pause, read, and rewind. However, if you are looking for improvements, this is legit.
thank you, i tried to do this for my last video, more pauses, its a good suggestion
well it's fun so, than you guys for watching!
yea, i tend to see a progression of defence going from turning in->turtling-> inversion….maybe u need to find the smallest most flexible dude in your gym and start smashing him and see what responses you can squeeze out so you can study it…just kidding (ok maybe not)!
yea, I think leg drag is sort of the new level of "smash" passing to fight an inverter…but then leandro Lo does zero leg drags and passes everyone(inverters, tricky guys, lasso, you name it)…BJJ works in mysterious ways…
whoever you are you made me more addicted to jiu jitsu!
Tornado Guard/Sweep my friend is the sweep Buchecha uses
I think inverting is a great concept and is highly effective, but what about when guys take the back anyway? (I'm thinking of Keenan vs Cyborg, when the latter rolled to invert for tornado guard and Keenan jumped over, taking the back). Go to 1:45 here and see what I mean: Fya51G9Fib8
yep, that's the one…
yeah I know what you are talking about, its risky but if you can get it great, if not you concede the sweep…
horrible choice of music, great video.
was wondering why you left out Cyborg who's a master of inverting?
I have to make some editing choices cause I want to keep em short…I picked buchecha because he's faced rodolfo a number of times so i wanted to keep in the theme
He didn't learn one. Happened again in Abu Dhabi 2014
Counter for inverting that I find useful is north south keeping real low under their legs to keep them flat but caution the inverter backwards roll to back take if you don’t also control their hips! Otherwise reset or get swept/stuck in guard.
Music = background track for a Jehovah's Witnesses recruitment infomercial
Cross-face counter: be buchecha.
