As Amazing as Maia is at Jiu Jitsu his "shot" is hot garbage. I don't know who he's training with in NJ but the fact they haven't addressed the that he doesn't drive through his shot and instead just falls to his knees is crazy. That's first day of junior high fundamental shit.
Simeon Waia says
I thought that if Maia just started throwing head kicks Tyron would've been forced to take him down instead. But seems he doesn't have head kicks in his arsenal. BTW I love that rendition of Nothing Else Matters.

Thats the issue with bjj, it can be nulified by a solid wrestler. And yea i know Maias subbed other wrestlers like Sonnen, but we see it time and time again where a bjj vs wrestler ends up being a striking match cause the bjj cant take the wrestler down.

This editing IS FUCKING GOLD

Metallica in the background..awesome.
Elijah Antony says
BJJSCOUT always sad when his boy loses. Keep your chin up mate. Cruz was a good champ too
vanillacrem3 says
While Maia could improve his wrestling (better set-ups, driving from his feet instead of knees, upper-body attacks), credibly threatening strikes would have forced Woodley to adopt a more upright stance instead of committing to defending single legs. Compare with Weidman vs. Munoz: Weidman easily shot on the more decorated wrestler by throwing high kicks to force Munoz into a striking stance.
Roger Moore says
Great breakdown. Thanks! And thanks for taking such care with the music selection. Your second career could be "Thoughtful DJ"?
Bush Ninja says
Poor George. He quit for a reason. I think he just wants to fight to be a good sportsmen. Now that's he's back he's getting called out by the champ. No breaks for that guy.
Gabe B says
Like you said Maia needed more than just a month of camp to prepare for a wrestler as good as Woodley. It's very clear why the UFC only gave Maia barely a months notice though. They do not want a BJJ master like him becoming champ because the casuals do not enjoy watching him fight at all.
As far as Woodley goes though I don't blame him at all. He used the gameplan required for him to win.
Doc Butcher says
Maia's Coaches failed him TBH. Woodley had a plan to counter Maia's preferred methods. Maia and his team, on the other hand, did nothing to adapt for woodley.

Love the new music and animated font styling! Cheers.

FWIW, your videos have become the grappling version of Jack Slack's striking posts. Simply essential pre- and post- big fight consumption to gain a better understanding of what is going on. Thank you for what you do.
lowlowseesee says
the music for this fits the sadness that the casual fans had about the fight ahahahahah

Not a rory vs lawler type of fight, woodley's fight may be boring but i think people should appreciate him more because he is very strategic. He is able to beat the best bjj practitioner in mma.Hats off to him.As for Maia,i was rooting for him because i love the bjj guys in MMA ,but i think his fight IQ is not good in that fight.I think he should have adjusted to clinch like in the video or even pull half guard(with an underhook or something to prevent woodley from disengaging). Its easy to say like this for me like keyboard warrior but i think if he did, it will work better for him in that fight ,just my opinion
R.B. says
Maia should just start kicking like a madman. Train lots of kickboxing and be heavy on the kicks. Then when he inevitably gets taken down it's game on.
Charles Price says
Reminds me a jj marcadio fight. I know that's not how name is spelled. But he kept going for that single croc take down and got pumeled till he was bleeding from for head . Great video scout .
Hisoka Morrow says
I am better strike than maia and his wrestling really sucks against woodley or background wrestlers. This is not combat jj or no gi is mma. Very boring match
Augusto Loa says
That it's true that quality in techniques are better than know various movements. But are true to that expecialization makes you predicatable. In the end, Maias game was great to make him the better bjj guy in the mma, but in the final, in the last battle, the especialization stoped help him; he got predicatable, and that cost the fight. Exist a proverb; moderation in everything; even in moderation.
