Thank you for the time scouting Leandro Lo's game! This is helping bridge that transition to get my own DLR/Spider guard game to the next level! Oss!
BJJSCOUT says
better grip manly , also with the pant gran u can also push against the shin better to stop advances (vs just an ankle grab which is manly pull)
BJJSCOUT says
hi entire matches are full of scrambles, so if you saw Lo punch the DLR hole and hit a knee slide you might think great move, but if you see how him trying unsuccessfully to punch ("off the move"), you figure out it's a strategy/pattern. Lo hits other passes too, but those are more "random', if you know what I mean. I think at a high level, the move is less important vs the overall strategy/gameplan that unfolds. In the "Scouting Lo" vid my focus is on his "unsuccessul" passes for example
BJJSCOUT says
maybe you can try check out Caio Terra? He's another example of someone who "breaks the rules". Rooster and yet does not use spider/DLR much but instead half guard (a guard hated universally by most "modern BJJ" ppl). Why is he a world champ then? Look at his half guard structure, its not the same as most and allows him to use it vs bigger opponents and yet avoid the "smash". That guard style is "off the move" and is the real thing to focus on I feel

Great analysis mate
TheJoeur says
Wow.. Gonna have to watch it a few times!
Clay Oldham says
Awesome! This is going into my game for sure.
Dench Ginge says
Can you do some caio terra video study please
Feroz Fafoo says
Powerfull knowledge that you've provided people with on the Lo vids, Thanks! Only complaint is now everyone whose watched this is going to be doing this, not just me lol
Luis Pantoja says
Great video and analysis! Thanks for posting it.
BJJSCOUT says
sorry for the late reply! you need to get better at fencing with spider side (its practice), also the moment he tries the double team on the spider leg, you need to be ready get the DLR hook off (standard drag defences). the DLR side doesn't have to be married to the "hook", if you look in my blog post on this video, it's almost an "active posting" leg
BJJSCOUT says
hah, scissors, paper, stone always applies in BJJ though…
BJJSCOUT says
maybe…though if you haven't checked the latest, I will do Rodolfo for now

Wow! That's some impressive info!
We Are Machines says
awesome series! id love to see a leandro lo nogi study. thanks!
BJJSCOUT says
don't think I will be doing one as it is almost the same, I might do something before/after his no gi copa podia match though
BJJSCOUT says
you need to keep the spider on as long as you can, leg dragging will only work as a counter once you are under and have shot through (see part 2) and can't hit the 2 sweeps. before that dragging is not a good tactic vs someone good at this guard..
Garret G says
it is my understanding that bringing the inside(left leg) in and then around the knee is a DQ. In a couple of shots like at 4:43 Lo is close. Early on did he have any DQs as he was perfecting? Looks like the proper placement for the left foot is with the knee bent touching the right hamstring and the foot across to the opp hamstring. Correct? Awesome analysis!
BJJSCOUT says
Hmm yes, he teaches the foot placement that way, but in his matches he doesn't even bother to get that sometimes, one he shoots through he is already chopping down and that foot which shot through might still be making contact with the floor
Not sure if he has had a lot of DQs, but then he is pretty careful about avoiding it from the videos I've seen so probably not.
Seth Johnston says
Just watched this… mind blown! I absolutely LOVE spider guard and often switch to DLR as well. I have NEVER tried to combine the two. I do believe I will be trying some new sweeps next class! THANK YOU!!
BJJSCOUT says
cool! see the other Lo videos too, might be something there for you too
BJJSCOUT says

The song that kicks in at 3:12 is so incredibly amazing
Grappling Spirit says
BJJ Scout is the King !!! Since his first vids he has been "copied" (actually I would rather say he truly inspired a lot of people that are also very good ?) but still he is the reference! Thanks for the amazing work…your vids were and still are part of my game improvements! Oss ????…And thanks for inspiring other good guys for breakdowns/analysis!
ELIVAN 90 says
i train bjj with one arm because my left arm i only have it developed down to the elbow ,and this guard works wonders on me while doing the spider guard grip and my left leg doing like a single x guard and i love it when the sweeps come flawlessly.
parkbg says
Analysis is surgical and on point. AmazingT TYVM! Looking forward to more videos. Going to try this at open mat tomorrow. I'm always vulnerable to leg drags, smashes, and toreandos during dlr guards, but the spider on the other side makes so much sense.
mafiabjj says
Hi Scout. I've been playing this guard in competition since studying this with success. However instead of DLR I play spider/shin guard with the same grip set. I lay back like lo rather than sat up like Nicolini. I find with the shin on shin it's easier to shoot inside for the double ankle sweep. I also use it to unbalance a standing opponent by elevating the shin on shin while either kicking away or down with the spider foot. Kind of like a modified version of Wardzinskis butterfly sweep with pant and sleeve grips. Could you please tell me what advantage Lo has to using a DLR rather than shin on shin? Thank you so much for your content

When that Prodigy song hits
Paul Woothipoom says
Does anyone know a counter to when they block the leg shooting through by putting their knees almost together?
