I obviously only got a small snip of the Keenan drilling comment, but I'll give my quick take: Drilling/repetition helps muscle memory in terms of developing a technique and allowing the "sub conscious" to adsorb and THEN act in competitive/real world application. You have to learn the technique (in any discipline) in a low pressure environment at first or shit habits develop aka weaknesses that then have to be later addressed. Then we could even discuss if focusing on just BJJ/AJJ itself is not a broader form of drilling on singular discipline.
I am applying this from a short lived wrestling/grappling childhood, other athletics into college, and a semi-professional musician standpoint. This also could be applied to basic child upbringing and non physical education.
