Attendance Based Belt Promotions in BJJ Rob You Blind

Today’s Q&A comes from Bob about BJJ gyms that promote Belts based only on attendance. He says his gym is attendance based and thinks it’s pretty ridiculous and wanted your opinion on the matter.

In this video I explain why I straight up don’t like attendance based BJJ belt promotions. Honestly I think they 100% rob you of 1 of the most important lessons grappling (and combat sports) has to offer. In the video I explain how I learned this lesson back when I started grappling 20 years ago with high school wrestling and how it changed me.

I also explain how that lesson carries over to almost every aspect of my life and how it’s been useful.

Now I think attendance can be used as a helpful metric, but it shouldn’t be the only thing thats considered for promotions.
