The Raven: this is a combat variation of Tsuri-goshi. In this example, which is also the best variation to train the basic form of the Raven, we approach an upright opponent from the back. Obviously, different approaches and different grip fighting sequences will pose their own unique challenges and opportunities, but one must begin somewhere. It requires gyaku-zenpo-kaiten, which is like a granby–so do not attempt this throw–unless you and your partner have been properly trained. Nik and Si are experts at breakfall, so use a crash pad.
