Steve MacInnis says
BJJSCOUT, you're missing the beauty of TJ's strategy! He didn't have a plan A and plan B, but rather, he molded those 2 gameplans into 1 to form a dual-dimensional strategy that revolves around exploiting Cody's 2 biggest holes (Dom caught Cody with a lot of looping right hands and TJ knew that Cody's never faced a kicker and probably caught him with left high kicks in sparring). TJ's gameplan was to use both tactics in hopes that he would eventually catch him with 1. And he caught him with both a head kick and a right hook, it just so happened that the right hook was the KO blow. When analyzing the fight, I noticed that the 2 gameplans work together in harmony. By forcing outside angles on Cody, he forced Cody to flee to his own right, which opened up the left kicks. (That's what his gameplan was, even though it didn't play out that way). I've analyzed every single sequence in that fight so many times, I know that whole fight like the back of my hand. So, you're breakdown is 100% correct, you got it right, but TJ's whole plan was to use both of those in conjunction with one another, it wasn't a 1st line, 2nd line thing where he had to use one when the other failed. That's what was so high level about his strategy, it was dual-purpose from the start. In my opinion, I believe Cody's gameplan would be to cut off the cage and corner TJ, I think that's Cody's best chance to win. Let's face it, Cody was fighting reactively the whole time. I think he's gonna totally switch up his gameplan and take the initiative in this rematch. I'm not just saying that, I have actual proof! There was 1 particular sequence in their first fight where Cody got TJ behind the black lines because TJ backed up. Cody didn't take advantage of the situation and let TJ feint, circle out and reclaim centre. If the TAM coaches are smart, they're gonna look at that and make that a part of Cody's strategy. I think that if Cody blitzes vs a cornered TJ, TJ will have 3 options: exchange, cover up, reactive takedown. TJ can't take Cody down, so Cody can use that to his advantage and employ that strategy to land strikes, I don't know why he hasn't done that already. He seriously needs to make that his plan B in my opinion. Honestly though, I don't think Cody's smart enough to change his game, I think he's gonna come in with plan A and just hope his power will be enough (which is always a losing strategy).

A lot of humor in this one. Loving it
Walter De Beer says
Sounds like Duane Ludwig at the end
MMA man says
1:55 it's interesting that you and Dan Hardy analysed this sequence differently. Dan said TJ saw Cody loading up on his right hand, thus causing TJ's retreat, rather than Cody getting outside control (or maybe I'm wrong). Love these breakdowns and really wait their arrival, great job!

Nik Nak says
Cody has had a pretty long history of back issues. Perhaps he elected to forego the open workout because he re-injured it or it is flared up?

That's high praise at the end.

Jean Claude did clip Cody on the lip with a kick. TJ might look to further exploit that. It would be interesting if Cody worked on leg kicks or oblique style kicks to 1. Slow TJ down 2. Cut his rhythm and momentum 3. Makes second guess himself

I love this page and am thankful for the voice… but for whatever reason the robot voice is off putting. Can't give a clear reason as to why though. Just bugs me.
vanillacrem3 says
Takedowns (and the threat of takedowns) are the obvious answer to kicks, but Cody doesn't have the grappling background to credibly make this work. It seems more likely that Cody will favor the traditional boxer's answer to kicks: crowd in right as kicks are thrown and strike while the kicker is recovering.
Old Man Frank says
Cody's Plan B is to throw endless superman punches.
