Natalee Funegra from AOJ’s kids program displaying great technique in a local event. competition at any age is very challenging, it makes you learn to control your emotions and ignore outside judgement – pressure and expectations will only increase as you move up the ranks.
people often ask me when we stop getting nervous before competitions and I really believe we never do. every time something that is important to you is on the line you will be anxious about what can happen. the difference is in the experience you have, the more experienced you are the more you learn to balance your nerves and the confidence in your preparation.
when the preparation is strong and you are surrounded by people who face their fears and work to achieve what they want, you soon become one of them.
notes from the fight: good guard frame, great work off balancing her opponent to expose the arm, nice catch on the arm and strong hold on the elbow, good rotation following the armbar looking to the opponents legs and solid finish.
great work, 11 years old yellow/black belt showing a very composed posture with very technical jiu jitsu.
great work to all of her coaches and professors as well. we are proud of you Natalee
