One of my former coworkers (Paul Dudley) would commonly tell us: “Everything works, and everything fails” during our training sessions. Principles and techniques can be reliable, but nothing is 100%.
This was illustrated recently when I was working on some defense from the bottom with help from my friend @hieuphan12 and the #shockknife. In both cases I used my shin and wrist control with my foot on his hip to create a push-pull effect on the knife hand. I learned this in the #graciesurvivaltactics course and it provides about as much control as you can get from the bottom. The idea from there is to unholster and shoot. First time it went as planned. Second time, Hieu also went for the pistol. My mistake was to insist on unholstering while he was doing that. The one drawback of introducing a gun into close quarters is that it allows the other person access to it too. Hieu was placing his hand on top of the holster which prevented me from drawing. When I tried to clear his had you can see the pistol fell out due to the retentions being released. My insistence of bringing it into the fight caused that. In this case I realized it fell out before he did and I recovered it. It’s pretty clear to me that introducing a gun into a close quarter fight doesn’t always improve the situation or end the fight. Invaluable training thanks to Hieu. 🙏🏽🤙🏽 #police #selfdefense #oldman #fitness #trainweeklyorfightweakly #aiea #oahugrown
