Is American Jiu Jitsu Really A Thing?

American Jiu Jitsu seems to be the hot topic of the moment in our BJJ community.
But what is American Jiu Jitsu? A whole different martial art or just a sub-style of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
The first time I’ve heard about AJJ was about 15-20 years ago, but the definition of AJJ back then was very clear, nowadays, not so much.
Here is my opinion about the whole thing.
