Awesome videos. Keep up the great work.

Hmm I don't think I have ever seen weak planes being used in judo books/videos (and I have read a lot…). A nice judo book is "best judo" though. It's also not easy to find books talking about combinations (ie analyzing players and their combis), I'm not sure something like that exists. You can watch this judo documentary called "Koga A New Wind" , it's really good.
BJJSCOUT says
thanks, glad you liked it

The Kosei Inoue Uchimata dvd box set is great!
BJJSCOUT says
oh yeah that one seems pretty good, his instruction on uchimata is good. Also on youtube look for the instructionals by Yamashita, they're very good

Hi, I find that unconventional grips in Judo, especially the one sided ones, are great for me in BJJ. In Judo, I'm a double lapel kinda guy so I can easily switch from right to left, and keeping my stand tight on the "inside". naturally, the one-sided rule is only allowed for 5 seconds in judo, and the 2 against 1 grip fighting is now illegal. these are excellent techniqes for grip fighting in bjj. greetings from the philippines! love your breakdowns.
Joshua Massey says
Yeah he dedicates a whole section to grip fighting and feints for achieving the grip.

These takedown series improved my Judo

A good book on combinations is "Attacking Judo" by Kashiwazaki and Nakanishi. Short and fairly basic but unfortunately it is expensive now.
BJJSCOUT says
oh yes I have seen that, that is not bad too. I think it's very hard (unlike BJJ) to find information (books/youtube) on how judo is really trained. Judo is very focused on drilling and the that really reaps dividends is the various types of uchikomi the competitive judokas drill
BJJSCOUT says
cool double lapel- that is pretty effective for a "defensive" gripping style, ie vs a double sleeve highly offensive judo grip. Well if it works for you and catches guys by surprise why not. Thanks! Nice to know you guys out there are watching the videos
kigawman says
To BJJSCOUT: its good and I'm surprised that you did a review on a judo fight from one of the foremost elite judoka. From 0:54 – 2:02, the guy on the white Judogi is Tadahiro Nomura, 3x Olympic gold-medalist (1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens), and 1997 world champion. He's a very formidable opponent and tough to throw during his prime.
BJJSCOUT says
hey thanks for watching kigawman! Yes I like Nomura a lot, I watch a lot of judo…a lot of how i analyse is inspired from judo analysis
BJJSCOUT says
Inoue is amazing…one of the few elite judoka that specialised in both morote seoi and uchimata
Bastanta Bas Ginting says
Keep up the excellent work! Your channel is very valuable to us learning bjj outside the US!

BJJSCOUT says
ty, where are you at?
James Purcell says
Great analysis. I am a Judo Black Belt and BJJ Purple Belt. What Judo rules do I violate in BJJ? All of them haha. I grab the opposite lapel and hold for more than three seconds. Also, wrestling single and double legs of course.I love being able to grab pant leg and turn it into a dump.
Miha Perhavec says
I have a 1. dan in judo and I'm a prolific blue belt competitor, these videos have been amazing in developing my strategy, since I completely disregarded judo when I started BJJ. A sincere thank you!
Gabriel Tashombe says
Would love to see some Travis Stevens analysis on this channel, since he does so well adapting judo to bjj and vice versa
Damon Mckenzie says
As being a judo player my self seeing this video is awesome. It really breaks it down, and now I will add these moves into my repations. ..
Joseph Vargas says
You have to have done some judo. I love your videos man. Keep up the good work!
Lautaro Prego says
what means "dogfight"?
Oswaldo Torres sanchez says
The best mixture. Judo & Bjj
Machinegun Preacher says
If we could only get it through our heads. Jiu-Jitsu was born of Judo. Technique-wise they're not in opposition; but rather complimentary. The competition rules of course are different. But the arts are related. We need to go back (a little) to our Judo roots when it comes to stand up. There's nothing "wrong", per se, with pulling guard etc.. But that's not how the Grandmasters originally intended for us to fight. They fought their challenge and vale tudo matches trying to be the one on top from the start; and so should we.
shevmania says
Excellent music, whats the name of it?
Charlie Catt says
Originally you could grab the legs as much as you wanted to and have them as an initial attack. Also ground fights were longer and more varied but the sport aspect of Judo just isn't the same.
Jibreel says
Lol!
Bjj scout doesn't fuck about with these soundtracks!
CrosstrainFightClub says
Great video and breakdown.. the music though ?
Joseph Faught says
Name a Judo rule, I bet I break it in BJJ
