I am a Judoka and I approve of this takedown/throw analysis

Immediately subscribed after watching this video! I've had the horrible habit of typically trying to attack my opponent's strong plane and getting my takedowns easily stuffed. This video really did a great job Illustrating such a basic but incredibly overlooked concept!
Btw, What's the name of the first song? It's apparently 'Stand and Fight' but all I'm finding are short versions on youtube/itunes that aren't as long as the song in this video. Where can I find the extended version?
BJJSCOUT says
thanks! Glad you liked it.
Hmm, try this "Stand and Fight- Epic Mixed AMV Fight" ?

I only see one "smart ass", and that's you. You criticize an "unteachable heart" yet you display your own arrogance by unnecessarily criticizing BJJScout with your smarmy "You haven't discovered anything new". Your comment was mean-spirited and completely absent of bushido…try a little humility instead of trying to show everyone how smart you are.
BJJSCOUT says
hmm , thanks for watching in any case

Wow this opened my eyes, Been doing wrestling for 5 years to complement my jits, love the concept
denver stapleton says
this is a great way to see the over exposure of the weakest defense i.e. goin with the flow.. in other words there is always a strong and a soft… if that makes any sense….

BJJScout! Please, what's the name of the first song? Also, exceptionally well done video! Helps me greatly in mma standup. Occasionally find myself with openings for seoi-nage or osoto-gari when pummeling. Helps to understand those techniques when I know where his planes are! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
BJJSCOUT says
hey it's in the video description, just added that in, thanks. Great that you found it useful, check out my other videos and add me on twitter!

Ignore him, music went very well with the clip, The Prodigy are awesome. Poor guy who was moaning is an ignorant 80's metal head, probably best not to take his advice on music choices.
MYK says
excellent video. It's a real eye-opener. Thanks!

Excellent illustration bro! It's a beautiful thing when it works isn't it? 🙂

Great video! I kept rolling in BJJ against Judo guys and almost always ended up on my back, now I've started taking some Judo to compliment my ground game, that way I can take the match wherever on my own terms. Check out Zack Hemsey for music.

Wow!! I am not a judo-anything, well, except for being able to land without hurting myself. This piece on "planes" and how they are used by various types of martial artist was absolutely fascinating to me. Thanks for all the work you did explaining this, along with the graphics, etc. Great stuff!!!
etekal says
I really enjoyed and appreciated your explanation of planes. They are a mathematical and intuitive way to represent what's going on, and very pedagogical as well. Really nice!
steve80ca says
Wow. I knew Judo was all about throws but this video really highlights the concepts of the art.
Jonathan Cooke says
As a judo coach of 30 years new to bjj I thought this was a fantastic clip to show the use of judo in bjj.

Brilliant video! I'm used to working with planes through Sanda, Gracie Jiujitsu and Bujinkan Ninjutsu but have never had it broken down so concisely like this. We sort of learn and understand and feel them out but never analyse them as such. Thank you for sharing!
omega says
We learned this in systema. Humans are bipedal and therefore on an inherently unstable structure that has to move to maintain stability. I believe Filipino Martial Arts is big on this triangle concept as well. In Wing Chun, it's varied by standing parallel (mostly) with butt tucked, as though a sprawl was turned upright, so that the triangle is already tilted vertically (making it difficult to force a recovery step or pressure through the weak line), both hands can defend the center, and a simple pivot can change the weak direction of the centerline to either side quickly. So, yes, I believe in planes. I don't think its even a question of belief.

Terrific video! I really like Vieira's throwing game. He's actually using a seoi-otoshi, and sometimes it starts looking like uki-otoshi when he initiates the throw more from the side and doesn't get underneath his opponent. That does nothing to affect your analysis, but it does to help explain why his seoi-nage may be considered ugly. Kodokan Judo Throwing Techniques by Toshiro Daigo is a fantastic text for studying throws if you can find a copy. Looking forward to future videos!
woolengrappler says
Awesome videos. Have you thought about doing a breakdown video of Lucas Lepri? He has a great all around game. His style is very effective, nothing flashy, just great pressure and great side to side movement.
Derrick Foo says
WELL DONE! Tim Ferris would be proud!

Your breakdowns are out of this world. Who are you and where do you train!??!!?! The knowledge and breakdowns of this Channel are unreal. Thanks

Just one clarification, that's eri seoi nage, not morote seoi nate. Eri is done holding the lapel near the arm you're holding with the other hand, morote is done holding the opposite lapel.
